Building a Team Commitment

Commitment is a big word in a team. Everyone has to make a commitment so they can work effectively in a team. Without commitment, it is expected that the team will crumble during the dark times. It’s a bit of a challenge to make sure that everyone commits that’s why team building is necessary.

1. When you start holding your team building, ask everyone in your team to make a commitment to take everything seriously. Everyone has to hold each other accountable or else nothing will work. If nothing worked then the team building is practically useless. So make sure everyone is on the same page. With that in mind, you can proceed to the next step.

team2. Get the commitment of the upper management. Everyone should participate and take this seriously. If the upper management does not see it as an essential part of the company’s training, then everyone will follow. They won’t commit to the activities and the metrics set therefore invalidating the efforts in creating a great team building activity. In times like this, the leadership in the company will make everyone commit to the work output in the workshop.

3. If you have a facilitator to do your workshop, make sure that you only get those that are experts in the field. Those that have the understanding of what a team should be. Don’t get those that are only used in creating fun events. Remember, team building should be about building unity in your team and not really about having fun.

The way to approach this is to get feedback from their previous clients. Team building is not about having a line-up of games but more of developing personal activities that will highlight the importance of camaraderie, unity, and diversity. Through this, you can make sure that the team will be committed to each other no matter what.

Also, your facilitators should commit to the whole idea of doing this activity. They should be committed enough to play their part. They should be positive energy throughout the whole day so they can share their energy to everyone else.

4. Once your facilitators commit, then everything else will follow. If everyone else has the same level of commitment in the activity, it will only yield to success. Without that commitment, it will be difficult for you to achieve any of the desired results you are aiming for so better be sure of your choices.
